1.0 OBJECTIVE:
The
objective of this standard operating procedure is to lay down the procedure for
Operation of Flash Point.
2.0 SCOPE:
This
SOP covers operating procedure of Flash point
3.0 RESPONSIBILITY:
Jr. Research Officer, Research
Officer: Responsible for operation and maintenance of the instrument as per
procedure.
Head of Department: Responsible
for maintenance, timely as per schedule.
QA Officer/QA Manager: Review the records and governing the document
4.0 Procedure:
4.1 Clean the instrument free from dust.
4.2 Clean and dry all parts of the cup
and its accessories thoroughly before the test is started.
4.3 Fill the cup with the sample to be
tested up to the level indicated by the filling mark. Place the lid on the Cup and insert the
thermometer high and low range as required.
4.4 Switch on the power, and turn the
Sunvic Control knob Clock wise to the extreme point.
4.5 The heater indicating lamp will glow.
After few minutes put the sunvic control to such a position that the rise of
temperature of the sample to be tested in the cup is 5° to 6° C / minute.
4.6 Turn the stirrer at 90 to 120 rpm. Apply the test flame when the temperature of
the sample is 17° C below the anticipated flash point of the sample.
4.7 Turn the shutter knob clock wise so
that the flame is lowered into the vapour space of the cup in 0.5 sec left in
its lowered positing for 1 sec.
4.8 Do not stir the sample while applying
the flame. Apply the test flame at the interval of 1°C temperature till the
test flame application causes a distinct flash in the interior of the cup.
4.9 Note down the temperature, which time fire
catch up the sample.
