1.0 Objective:
The objective of this
Standard Operating Procedure is to lay down the procedure for operation and
calibration of Viscometer.
2.0 Scope:
This SOP covers operating and
calibration procedure of Viscometer .
3.0 Responsibility:
Jr.
Research Officer, Research Officer: Responsible for operation, calibration and
maintenance of the instrument as per procedure.
Head of Department: Responsible
for calibration and maintenance, timely as per schedule.
QA Officer/QA Manager: Review the records and governing the document.
4.0 Procedure:
4.1 Ensure that the instrument is
visibly clean and free from dust.
4.2 Check spirit level of the
viscometer and adjust to center, if required.
4.3 Select & attach the desired
spindle.
4.4 Switch ‘ON’ mains of power
supply and Switch ON the instrument provide left back side of the instrument,
display show ‘REMOVE SPINDLE’ AND ‘PRES ANY KEY’.
4.5 Press any key to auto zero of
the instrument. After completion of this procedure display show ‘REPLACE
SPINDLE’ AND ‘PRES ANY KEY’.
4.6 Enter the desired spindle number with help
of ‘SET SPINDLE’ and or ¯ key.
4.7 Set RPM
with the help of or ¯ key.
4.8 Push the motor ‘ON/OFF’ key to
STOP the stirrer.
4.9 Same time press ‘SET SPEED’ and
‘SELECT SPINDLE’ key, display show ‘ TIME
STOP’ and ‘¯ TIME TO TORQUE’.
4.10 Select time in Minute or Second with ‘SELECT
SPINDLE’ key and enter the time with or ¯ key.
Bring the spindle down &
deep into solution up to the mark on spindle.
4.11 Press Motor ON/OFF key to start
the stirrer. After completion note the result of viscosity of sample from
display screen.
4.12 Switch ‘OFF’ the instrument.
4.13 Enter the details of usage of
the instrument as per given in Annexure – 1.
4.14 After measuring viscosity, lift
the spindle up.
4.15 Clean the spindle carefully and
keep it b`1ack in the box.
5.0
Calibration:
5.1 Take calibration fluid in to 600 ml low
form, griffin beaker (without creating any bubbles) and on LV and RV models, the
instrument Guard Leg must be used.
5.2 The
beaker, fluid, spindle and guard leg must be stabilized at 25° C (± 0.1 °C) before the calibration.
5.3 Then select the appropriate as required.
5.4 Now put a standard solution with a known
viscosity and note down the viscosity of this solution as per given in
Annexure – 2.
Annexure – 2.
5.5 After completion of the work switch OFF the
instrument.
LIMIT: Viscosity Standards
fluids are accurate to + 1.0 % of stated value.
NOTE:
1) Remove bubbles, if any.
2) The solution taken for measurements
should be taken in one-liter beaker, in sufficient quantity so that the spindle can
be deepens properly.
6.0 Routine maintenance:
6.1 Clean the instrument with dry
cloth.
6.2 Clean the spindle with water
and wipe with tissue paper.
7.0 Documentation:
7.1 Annexure - 1
Viscometer Usage logbook. XXX/FRM/000
7.2 Annexure - 2
