1.0 Objective:
The objective of this Standard Operating Procedure is to lay down
the procedure for operating the Double Distillation Unit (CAT.3362 Cap
1.5Lit/hr)
2.0 Scope:
This SOP covers operating
procedure of Double Distillation Unit (CAT.3362 Cap 1.5Lit/hr)
3.0 Responsibility:
Laboratory Assistant: Responsible
for operation and maintenance as per procedure.
Head of Department: Responsible for
maintenance, timely as per schedule.
QA Officer/QA
Manager: Review the records and governing the document.
4.0 Procedure:
4.1
The glass boiler unit is to be clamped to the stand.
4.2
Fix the quartz “U” type heater into the boiler .The heater comes with
silicone bush which should be firmly placed into the
socket of the glass boiler .Do not over tighten or twist the silicone bush.
4.3
The heater are marked I & II. The heater marked I (red boot) is for the first unit & heater
marked II (blue boot) is for
the second unit.
4.4
The leads of electrical wire is fixed to the black connector provided on
the stand.
4.5
The pin plug wire is connected to the other side of electrical connector.
4.6 The coil condenser is fixed to the boiler by smearing small amount of silicone grease to the cone of condenser.
4.7 Connect the rubber tubes from the tap to inlet of condenser and from outlet of the condenser unit to the sink.
4.8 The cooling water supply to both the condensers should be independent. The hot water coming out from the 1st condenser should never be connected to the condenser inlet of the 2 nd condenser unit.
4.9 The distilled water from the first unit is fed into the feed water inlet tube of the second unit by silicone tubing.
4.10 When the water levels rises and fills the boiler of the second unit switch on the second unit and collect the double distilled water.
4.11 Connect 3 pin plugs to the mains & switch on. The water boils in the boiler, condenses and distilled water is collected.
4.12 Silicone rubber tube is connected to the distilled water outlet. Rinse the container with distilled water once before collecting it.
4.13 Ensure that the hot zone of the heater is well immersed in the water and is away from the silicone bush.
4.14 Specific Conductivity, Silica, Colour Retention and pH will be checked twice in a month and record the result
