1.0 Objective:
The objective of this standard
operating procedure is to lay down the procedure for
operating &
calibration of Conductivity Meter .
2.0 Scope:
This SOP covers operating procedure of Conductivity
Meter.
3.0 Responsibility:
Jr. Research Officer, Research Officer: Responsible for operation,
calibration and
maintenance of the
instrument as per procedure.
Head of Department:
Responsible for calibration and maintenance, timely as per schedule.
QA officer/QA Manager:
Review the records and governing the document.
4.0 Procedure:
4.1 Procedure for
operation:
4.1.0 Ensure that instrument is visibly clean and free from dust.
4.1.1 Connect the
conductivity probe to the instrument.
4.1.2 Switch “ON” the
instrument.
4.1.3 Set the temperature at
25 °C with the help of temperature Knob.
4.1.4 Submerse the probe
into the solution to be tested.
4.1.5 The sleeve holes must
be completely submersed. Tap the probe repeatedly to remove
any air bubbles that may be trapped
inside the sleeve.
4.1.6
The conductivity value will be
displayed on the primary LCD and the temperature on
the secondary LCD.
4.1.7
If the reading is out of range,
the full-scale value will be displayed blinking.
4.2 Procedure for calibration:
4.2.1 Rinse the probe with calibration solution or
deionized water.
4.2.2 The sleeve holes must be completely
submersed.
4.2.3 Tap the probe repeatedly to remove any air
bubbles that may be trapped inside the sleeve.
4.2.4 To enter EC calibration, select the EC range
and press CAL .
4.2.5 The “BUF” and “CAL ”
tags are displayed.
4.2.6 Selectable calibration points for
conductivity are 0.00µS for offset and 1413 µS for slope.
4.2.7 For 1413µS calibration
prepare KCL solution (0.7455gm/Lit in CO2 free water), using AR/GR grade KCL
dried at 180°C for 1 Hour.
4.2.8
Cool the solution at 20°C and
measure its conductivity. Wash the cell with distilled water & restore it
in the same.
Note: CO2
free water is prepared by boiling distilled water for 10 minutes & cooling
it in CO2 free atmosphere (Desiccators containing NaOH flakes in
bowl).
Acceptance Criteria:
The observed conductivity should 1.330 ± 1% at ms/cm at 20 °C.
Frequency: Daily
5.0 Routine maintenance:
5.1 Clean instrument with
dry cloth.
5.2 Clean the electrode
and temperature knob with wet
6.0 Documentation:
6.1 Annexure – 1 - Usage log book. XXX/FRM/000
