5.8.1       The laboratory has documented and implemented procedure Quality Process for proper handling, transportation, receipt, storage, retention and disposal of test and calibration items including all provisions necessary to protect the integrity of test and calibration items, and to protect the interests of laboratory and customer.

5.8.2       The laboratory on receipt of test and calibration items verifies its description from requisition and record it with unique identification number, which is retained till the item, is disposed. The handling system is operating in such a way that the items cannot be confused physically or when referred to in records or other documents. The handling system is to accommodate sub-division of groups of items and the transfer of items within and from the laboratory.

5.8.3       The laboratory on receipt of test and calibration items verifies its description from test / calibration method and record for any abnormalities or departures from normal or specified. If there is any doubt in suitability of testing, the customers is consulted before start of testing and in-house calibration. The discussion is recorded.

5.8.4       The laboratory follows procedure Quality Process and has arrangement for facility to avoid loss / damage or deterioration of test item during storage, handling and preparation. Handling instruction Work Instruction is provided to testing personnel. When a test item, received, is to be stored under specified environmental condition, it is maintained, monitored and recorded. When a test item or a part of it has to be held secure, the laboratory arranges for secure storage.
