SOP for Cleaning of Laboratory.



1.0     OBJECTIVE:
               The objective of this standard operating procedure is to lay down the procedure for Cleaning of Laboratory.
2.0          SCOPE:
           This SOP covers the Daily cleaning procedure of laboratory.
3.0          RESPONSIBILITY:
               Laboratory Assistant: Responsible for the cleaning of the laboratory as per procedure                 
               QA Officer/QA Manager: Governing the document.
4.0          PRECAUTIONS:
4.1          Wear protective clothing, headgear and nose mask while entering the Departments.
4.2          Switch off the tube light or any other electrical fixtures while cleaning them.
               Do not touch any electrical equipment with wet hand.
4.3    Use either soft plastic broom or clean cotton mops depending on the requirements.
4.4         Cleaning items for microbiology area should not be used for other area.
4.5           Avoid walking on wet floor after swabbing.
4.6          Change the disinfectant solution, used for swabbing of the floors as soon as it becomes dirty.
4.7     After the cleaning operations are completed, the Junior Research Officer Research Officer must inspect the area, walls, partitions and fixtures to ensure proper cleaning.
5.0          DAILY CLEANING:
5.1      Any spillage of materials must be cleaned as it occurs. Any dust must be preferably removed by sweeping by means of plastic broom.
5.2        At the end of the day clean the floor, by dry swabs / brushes followed by wet dusters. Clean the floor of all area with water and cleaning agent like 2 % Benzyl Septol or 2 % Dettol or  2 %  Savlon or  2 % Phenyl.
6.1             TOP  AREAS  :
               Clean the top areas including ceiling, grills, tube lights, fixtures and other fixtures and the walls
               a)      Brush the ceiling with a brush tied to a long handle.
               b)    Remove the loose dust with a dry duster or a brush. Then wipe the ceiling walls  and the grills with a duster wetted with Benzyl Septol solution and finally wipe  dry with a clean duster.
               c)     For cleaning tube light, use the aluminum ladder wherever necessary. Switch off the lights. Wipe the loose dust with a dry duster then wipe with a duster wetted with 2 % Benzyl Septol / 2 % Dettol / 2% Savlon. Use only moist and squeezed duster. Finally wipe dry with a dry duster.
6.1           SIDE AREAS:
               Including walls, windows panes, partitions, ledges etc.
               a) Wipe with dry duster.
               b) Then wipe with duster wetted with 2 % Benzyl Septol / 2% Dettol or 2% Savlon.
6.2         DOORS & DOOR CLOSURES & STATIONARY OBJECTS  e.g. work bench, tables, Racks Chairs etc.
               a)   Open the doors and wipe the sides, door frames, latches, door closures and stoppers with dry dusters.
               b)  Wipe again with a wet duster soaked in 2 % Benzyl Septol solution / 2% Dettol / 2% Savlon.
   c) Wipe dry with a dry duster.
